Eligibility Criteria

This scholarship is for full-time undergraduate or graduate continuing students who intend to pursue a career in radio, television, or other news and entertainment communications media and have demonstrated financial need. It is to be used only for tuition and fees.

The geographic area is open but it is not intended for international students.

The institution has the discretion to award future scholarships to the same student in subsequent years.

All other criteria being met, preference is given to students who have a current relationship (a relative of active or retired, full or part-time employees) with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Milwaukee operations of E.W. Scripps Co. (WTMJ-TV, WTMJ-AM, WKTI-FM) and Gannett Wisconsin (Appleton Post-Crescent, Fond du Lac Reporter, Green Bay Press-Gazette, Manitowoc Herald Times Reporter, Marshfield News Herald, Oshkosh Northwestern, Sheboygan Press, Stevens Point Journal, Wausau Record-Herald, Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune).

Although there is no specific grade requirement, the recipient should show scholastic ability based on high school or college transcripts as a measure of academic performance and ability to succeed.

Application Procedure The application will be made available at the beginning of the Fall semester. To apply, go to the Gold for Blugolds Scholarship Network. Complete the Communication and Journalism - Greater Milwaukee Foundation Scholarship Application.
Selection Procedure The Communication and Journalism Scholarship Committee will select the recipient.
Selection Deadline Early October.

The chair of the department will send notification to the recipient.

The winner is expected to attend the Communication and Journalism Student Excellence Recognition Reception held the last day of spring classes.

Special Notes These scholarships should provide each student with $1,000 per semester whenever possible. A separate report, in the format indicated by the Greater Milwaukee Foundation, is required to be completed by the communication and journalism department prior to October 15th.
Thank You A letter of gratitude addressed to the Damm Advisory Committee for the Greater Milwaukee Foundation/Walter Jay and Clara Charlotte Damm Fund should be submitted directly to the Department of Communication and Journalism program assistant, with a copy to the UW-Eau Claire Foundation Office.
