Connie Bakker Native American Honor Scholarship

Departments: Admissions Categories: Any Course of Study | Diversity | New Students
Amount One award of $500.
Availability Available beginning in the 2018-2019 academic year.
Eligibility Criteria

Awarded to an outstanding incoming freshman student who has graduated from high school in Wisconsin, has been accepted for admission to UW-Eau Claire and demonstrates financial need as verified by the UW-Eau Claire Financial Aid office and FAFSA standards.

First preference is for students majoring in education. Priority should be given to students enrolled full-time, but if there are no eligible applicants enrolled full-time, half-time students can be considered.

To be considered, students must be of Native American heritage, rank in the top 25% of their graduating classes and have a minimum of a 25 composite on the ACT (or comparable SAT), have a well-rounded high school record of academic achievement, leadership and involvement in extracurricular activities. In general a student who has a zest for life and a desire to get the most out of his/her college education will receive primary consideration.

Renewal awards of the same amount are available for a total of up to four years, provided the student maintains an overall GPA of 3.0 or better and continues to meet the criteria.

Application Procedure

To be considered for Incoming Freshman Student Admissions Scholarships, you must first be admitted to the university. Once you are admitted, you must:

  • Go to the Admissions Scholarship page and read through the information in the Apply for Scholarships section.
  • Then you can use the Apply online for scholarships link to complete the Admissions Scholarship application, available on the GOLD for Blugolds Scholarship Network.
Selection Procedure

The Admissions Office will coordinate the selection process, which is highly competitive. Applications will be considered holistically and include a review of the student's high school transcript, test scores, essays, class rank, class rigor, activities/involvement, etc.

Selection Deadline

Screening of candidates will begin in December for some early awards and continue through the spring or until awards are accepted.

Scholarship award notices will be sent to scholarship recipients by the beginning of April of the student's senior year. If scholarships are declined, they will be re-awarded to alternates through the summer months.

Thank You Thank you notes should be written and addressed to the Bakker Family and sent in care of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation Office.
