This scholarship is awarded to academically talented and motivated incoming first-year students who will major in Geography and have a demonstrated aptitude for the social and physical sciences. Candidates must show solid academic potential, curiosity in and engagement with the world around them, and outstanding potential to contribute meaningfully to the communities in which they are involved. The UW-Eau Claire First-year Geography Scholarship is for $1,000.
Scholarship recipients are expected to complete the four geography foundation classes in their first year at UWEC (GEOG 104, GEOG 111, GEOG 178, GEOG 200).
This is a one-year scholarship but recipients who maintain at least a 3.0 GPA, successfully complete the four geography foundation classes, continue to make satisfactory progress toward a degree in geography, and take at least one additional geography elective or required course in the first semester of their second year will receive a $1,500 second-year scholarship.

These merit based scholarships are awarded based on your admissions profile, high school transcript, and this completed online application. Award notices will be sent to recipients by March 16th. Recipients are required to accept their award by May 1st. If the scholarship is not accepted by this date, it will be re-awarded.
Review of applications will begin after March 2nd. Candidate selections will be made by March 16th and scholarship award letters will be sent via mail. If you do not hear from the Geography Scholarship Committee, please note that your scholarship application will stay on file for future incoming student scholarships, and any re-awards will be offered throughout the summer.
