Eligibility Criteria

The Honadel Blugold Promise Scholarship shall be awarded to an outstanding incoming freshman student who has graduated from high school in Wisconsin or Minnesota, has been accepted for admission to UW-Eau Claire and demonstrates significant financial need as initially reported by the students and verified by the UW-Eau Claire Financial Aid Office.

To be considered, students must rank in the top 25% of their graduating classes and have a minimum of a 25 composite on the Act (or comparable SAT), have a well-rounded high school record of academic achievement, leadership and involvement in extracurricular activities. In general a student who has a zest for life and a desire to get the most out of his/her college education will receive primary consideration.

This scholarship has a preference for a graduate of any high school in Minnesota. If no qualified candidate is identified from Minnesota, consideration shall be given to all eligible students.

Recipients who have a successful freshman year and maintain good academic standing, according to the standards at UW-Eau Claire, by the end of their first year will receive a $1,000 scholarship their sophomore year, if they continue to demonstrate financial need.

Application Procedure

To be considered for Incoming Freshman Student Admissions Scholarships, you must first be admitted to the university. Once you are admitted, you must:

  • Go to the Admissions Scholarship page and read through the information in the Apply for Scholarships section.
  • Then you can use the Apply online for scholarships link to complete the Admissions Scholarship application, available on the GOLD for Blugolds Scholarship Network.
Selection Procedure

The Admissions Office will coordinate the selection process, which is highly competitive. Applications will be considered holistically and include a review of the student's high school transcript, test scores, essays, class rank, class rigor, activities/involvement, etc.

Selection Deadline Screening of candidates will begin in December for some early awards and continue through the spring or until awards are accepted.
Notification Scholarship award notices will be sent to scholarship recipients by the beginning of April of the student's senior year. If scholarships are declined, they will be re-awarded to alternates through the summer months.
Special Notes John Honadel graduate from UW-Eau Claire in 1990 with a degree in Accounting. Diann (Dommel) Honadel also graduated from UW-Eau Claire in 1990 with a degree in Organizational Communications. They met as juniors at Eau Claire and married two years after graduating. Diann used her Spanish minor working for two large companies before they started a family. John is a partner with Wipfli, LLP, a Top-25 accounting firm. Diann and John treasure their college experiences at UW-Eau Claire and welcome the opportunity to help others create their own UW-Eau Claire memories.
