Eligibility Criteria This scholarship will be awarded to a student who meets the following criteria: acceptance into the College of Education, a major in elementary education, and financial need. Preference should be given to a student that shows strong achievements in volunteering and/or activities relating to reading.
Application Procedure

Go to the Gold for Blugolds Scholarship Network. Complete the Teacher Education Scholarship Application.

Selection Procedure The Education Scholarship Committee will select the recipient of the scholarship based upon the criteria above.
Selection Deadline On or about April 1.
Notification The office of the associate dean of Education and Human Sciences will notify the recipient by letter. The recipient will be invited to participate in the College of Education and Human Sciences awards ceremony each spring.
Special Notes

Reed and Barbara Newton met at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire where both were elementary education majors. They married in 1956, Barbara's year of graduation. Reed graduated in 1958, then spent his 35 year career as an elementary teacher and principal, with 24 of those years as the elementary principal in the Clintonville Elementary Schools, where he was treasured greatly.

Barbara spent her 33 year career as an elementary teacher.

Upon the death of Reed in November 2011, the Newton Family decided to initiate the Reed and Barbara Newton Elementary Education Scholarship.
