Eligibility Criteria

Awarded to an outstanding incoming freshman student who has graduated from high school in Wisconsin, been accepted for admission to UW-Eau Claire and demonstrates significant financial need as verified by the UW-Eau Claire Financial Aid Office.

First preference is given to a student from Osseo Fairchild High School, second preference to a minority student from a Milwaukee public high school, third preference to a student from Chippewa Falls High School, and fourth preference to a student from Wautoma Area High School.

To be considered, students must rank in the top 25% of their graduating classes and have a minimum of a 25 composite on the ACT (or comparable SAT), have a well- rounded high school record of academic achievement, leadership and involvement in extracurricular activities. In general a student who has a zest for life and a desire to get the most out of his/her college education will receive primary consideration.

Recipients who have a successful freshman year and maintain good academic standing by the end of their first year will receive a $1,000 scholarship their sophomore year.

Application Procedure

To be considered for Incoming Freshman Student Admissions Scholarships, you must first be admitted to the university. Once you are admitted, you must:

  • Go to the Admissions Scholarship page and read through the information in the Apply for Scholarships section.
  • Then you can use the Apply online for scholarships link to complete the Admissions Scholarship application, available on the GOLD for Blugolds Scholarship Network.
Selection Procedure

The Admissions Office will coordinate the selection process, which is highly competitive. Applications will be considered holistically and include a review of the student's high school transcript, test scores, essays, class rank, class rigor, activities/involvement, etc.

Selection Deadline Screening of candidates will begin in December for some early awards and continue through the spring or until awards are accepted.
Notification Award notices will be sent to scholarship recipients by the beginning of April of the student's senior year. If scholarships are declined, they will be re-awarded to alternates through the summer months.
Special Notes Eric Dimmitt is Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment for the Mequon-Thiensville School District in suburban Milwaukee. A 1991 School of Education graduate in English and Speech Communication, Eric chose to support this scholarship to make certain sophomores who need additional financial resources to remain in college can continue their studies without interruption. This scholarship recognizes the excellent preparation Eric experienced at UW-Eau Claire for a career in education, and makes certain more student are able to proudly call themselves Blugold alumni.
