Eligibility Criteria

There are five undergraduate student awards and two graduate student awards available. The undergraduate recipients must be at least junior nursing majors in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences and the graduate recipients must be studying to be Nurse Practitioners in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

All recipients must demonstrate financial need verified by the UW-Eau Claire Financial Aid office and FAFSA standards and show promise in the nursing profession. Academic achievement also will be a factor in the selection. It is the donors' intent to motivate and encourage nursing majors in any of the programs offered through the College to remain motivated to complete their degrees and enter the nursing profession.

Application Procedure To be considered for scholarships from the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, you must be an admitted nursing student and meet any additional criteria as stated by the scholarships. In order to apply, please follow this link to the Gold for Blugolds Scholarship Network: This is an online scholarship application site managed by the UW-Eau Claire Foundation. Once you have entered the site, follow the directions below:
  • Use your UW-Eau Claire credentials (your UW-Eau Claire User Name and Password) to log-in to the site
  • Navigate to the College of Nursing Scholarship Application
    • This single application allows you to apply for all Nursing scholarships for which you are eligible
  • After you have submitted your completed application, please look for an email communication from or Gold for Blugolds Scholarship Network explaining your next steps
  • In April, if you have been awarded scholarships, you will receive an email from this same address which will direct you to go back to the Gold for Blugolds Scholarship Network to review your scholarship(s)
  • You will also receive a letter from the College of Nursing and Health Sciences announcing any scholarships you have been awarded
Selection Deadline The nursing Scholarship Committee will review applications and select the recipient prior to the scholarship dinner.
Special Notes

The Mathisons are Eau Claire natives and life-long residents. Donald Mathison graduated from UW-Eau Claire in 1949 with a teaching degree in math and taught for many years in the Eau Claire area, completing his career as the first principal of South Middle School. Leatrice was an administrative secretary in the district office of the Eau Claire Area School District for 45 years. She passed away in December of 2016.
