To be eligible, the recipient must be enrolled in the comprehensive or standard English-teaching major, demonstrate an intent to be an English teacher, have junior status in the fall when the scholarship is received, and have an overall GPA of 3.0 or better.
The applicant must demonstrate financial need as verified by the Financial Aid office.
|Application Procedure||Application forms are available in the English department office. Applicants must submit a letter of application, a current transcript, and a resume, along with the names of English professors who can speak to their qualifications for this scholarship.|
|Application Deadline||March 1|
|Selection Procedure||The English Department Scholarship Committee will select the recipient based on the scholarship criteria and the strength of the application.|
|Selection Deadline||Approximately April 1.|
Notification to the recipient will be made by the Scholarship Committee. The department submits a scholarship award form to the Financial Aid office.
The recipient will be formally honored during the annual English Festival Awards Ceremony.
|Special Notes||This scholarship was established in 2006 in honor of Nan Dougherty, who taught English at UW-Eau Claire from 1967-1988. Mrs. Dougherty was a former president of the Wisconsin Council of Teachers of English. She was well-known and beloved by her colleagues, friends and former students.|
