|Amount||Five awards of $100.|
Applicants must be full-time Sociology majors, have a resident and cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher at the time of application, have completed at least 60 credits by the beginning of the semester in which the award is made, and may not be previous recipients of the award.
There are three types of Blumenthal Awards for personal achievement:
1.) Blumenthal Award for Outstanding Student Academic Apprentice, which is nominated by the faculty who supervise a Student Academic Apprentice in a sociology course. It consists of up to two awards of $100 each (depending on annual funding availability), and is contingent on presentation at the Annual Sociology Awards.
2.) Blumenthal Award for the Sociological Imagination, a faculty nominated award for a sociology major who lives up to C. Wright Mill's approach to sociology. There are up to two awards of $100 each (depending on annual funding availability), which are contingent on presentation at the Annual Sociology Awards.
3.) Blumenthal Award of Post-BA Plans, a faculty nominated award for a sociology major whose post-BA plans maximize the skills and knowledge learned at UW-Eau Claire. Up to two of these awards of $100 each (depending on annual funding availability), and are contingent on presentation at the Annual Sociology Awards.
|Application Procedure||Students are nominated by faculty members - there is no application for this award.|
|Selection Procedure||A scholarship committee consisting of the chair and two faculty chosen by the department shall make the selection decision.|
|Selection Deadline||May 15 prior to the academic year in which the award is given.|
|Notification||The recipient will receive official notification prior to June 1, from the chair of the Department of Sociology.|
