Eligibility Criteria

As a Blugold Fellow you will be joining an elite group of individuals. Blugold Fellows comprise less than 1% of the incoming class and have gone on to be recognized as Goldwater Scholars and even one Rhodes Scholar. Students selected for this scholarship demonstrate a continued thirst for knowledge and are ready to begin faculty-student collaborative research freshman year.

During your freshman year you will be awarded a $1,500 scholarship and a $1,200 work stipend. These awards are renewable during your sophomore year under the stipulation that you maintain a 3.0 GPA during your freshman year and continue to conduct faculty-student research.

Application Procedure

To be considered for Incoming Freshman Student Admissions Scholarships, you must first be admitted to the university. Once you are admitted, you must:

  • Go to the Admissions Scholarship page and read through the information in the Apply for Scholarships section.
  • Then you can use the Apply online for scholarships link to complete the Admissions Scholarship application, available on the GOLD for Blugolds Scholarship Network.
Selection Procedure

The Admissions Office will coordinate the selection process, which is highly competitive. Applications will be considered holistically and include a review of the student's high school transcript, test scores, essays, class rank, class rigor, activities/involvement, etc.

Selection Deadline Screening of candidates will begin in December for some early awards and continue through the spring or until awards are accepted.
Notification Award notices will be sent to recipients by the beginning of April of the student's senior year. If scholarships are declined, they will be re-awarded to alternates through the summer months.
Special Notes This award supercedes the Freshman Honors Scholarship. If a recipient receives a larger Foundation award, the larger award replaces the $1,000 award.
Thank You Recipients are expected to write thank you letters addressed to 'Foundation Board Members' and send them in care of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation office.
