|Amount||A variable number of awards up to $2,100. Total amount available is $2,100.|
Candidates preferably would be junior, senior, or graduate students. Nontraditional aged students, returning to school after an interruption in their education, are preferred, as are students planning a career in social work, psychology, nursing, or other helping professions with career plans involving counseling or recovery efforts for people with problems with alcohol, substance abuse or eating disorders. Candidates must be in good academic standing to be eligible for the award, with indications of a promising and successful career.
Preference for students showing financial need.
May apply for award renewal by submitting application in subsequent years.

|Selection Procedure||The Counseling Services Scholarship Committee will select the recipient.|
|Notification||The recipient will receive written notification by the chair of the Counseling Services Scholarship Committee.|
|Special Notes||James C. Carter has established the E. Louise Carter Scholarship in honor of his mother.|
|Thank You||The recipient should send a thank you letter to James C. Carter in care of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation, highlighting their career plans and goals.|
